I'm the queen of earworms.
If I hear something catchy, it sticks in my head for days. My Mimi was the same way, and we had a couple of songs that overlapped. One of them was Jingle Bell Rock. When I was away at college, I could be sure to get a call every December, usually when I was studying for exams. Mimi would have heard it on the radio and have it stuck in her head, so she'd call me and sing it to me so it'd be stuck in my head, too. The other song was Edelweiss. Mimi's favorite movie was the Sound of Music, and Edelweiss was played at her funeral. So when B's mother suggested a day trip from Munich to Salzburg, Austria (aka the setting of the Sound of Music), I was all over that. And I'm so glad we went. I may have teared up on the Hop On/Hop Off bus that was playing Edelweiss on the Sound of Music tour channel, but Salzburg was a pretty neat little city, and a welcome respite from Munich. I only hate B didn't get to see it. He had to leave Monday to fly back to France so he could be at work on Tuesday. We only stayed a few hours because the train trip to Munich was pretty long, but I'm glad we went. It reminded me of my Mimi, and it reminded me that those we love always live on in us and in our memories. xoxo, E
