A StitchFix, that is. In case you don't recall, I tried this service several years ago (read about my first three attempts here, here, and here). Basically, you answer an extensive questionnaire about your size, clothing style, and lifestyle, and they ship you a box of five pieces of clothing, jewelry, accessories, etc. You get to choose which, or all, pieces to keep.
I stopped because they hadn't been nailing my style, and when they finally figured out my style, the clothes they sent were too big. But my referral link was still up on my blog posts, and somebody (Jennifer P.? Anyone know who Jennifer P. is?) found it. And she ordered a StitchFix, so I got $25 credit. I wasn't about to turn that down. And I'll be damned if they didn't nail my style this time. It was downright perfect - the colors were great, and the sizing was (mostly) perfect. Keep reading to see each item with my initial thoughts open opening the package and my thoughts once I tried it on...and, of course, what I wound up keeping. xoxo, E Toms Classic Chambray Slip-On Flat
initial thoughts // They sent me shoes! This is awesome. I love Toms!
trying it on // They fit. I know I'm a solid 6.5 in Toms. And these even have more cushion than the Toms I already have. And they're gray - my go-to neutral. verdict // I don't necessarily need another pair of Toms, but want is another story. I do like them. I'll see how everything else fits and looks. They're a possibility. Pixley Greenich Striped Knit Top
initial thoughts // Is my stylist psychic? This has elbow patches! I won't bust holes in the sleeves! Yippie!
trying it on // It's super-stretchy and comfy. I love stripes, and I don't own much red clothing. And long live the elbow patches. This top might actually last more than a season or two. verdict // If nothing else fits/works, I'm definitely keeping this one. Papermoon Marisol Mixed Material 3/4 Sleeve Knit Top
initial thoughts // Oh, this is super-cute. It's polka-dotted. And navy. I love navy!
trying it on // Very flowy and comfortable. I love the polka-dotted part on the back. This will look great with gray leggings. And Toms. verdict // Crap. I'm supposed to not be liking this much of my box. Market & Spruce Wallsend Knit Blazer
initial thoughts // Oh, this will be perfect for work. But I could still wear it casually, too. That's handy.
trying it on // This fits. It's cute - and it's navy. So it will match a lot of the clothes I already own. verdict // I mean, I can't say no to this, right? I can wear it to work. It's practical. Pistola Marlee Skinny Jean
initial thoughts // They are really brave to send me pants; I told them I was hard to fit on the bottom. And my mom just bought me skinny jeans at the outlets last weekend. And these are a size smaller than I normally wear...hmmm...
trying it on // Nope. Nuh-uh. Could just barely get them buttoned. And the whole buying too-small clothes in hopes of losing weight to fit into them? Yeah, I don't play that game. verdict // Aha. Something that doesn't fit. But B says they look good on me. And they're even the RIGHT LENGTH, which is basically unheard of in my world. I just need the next size up. Stitchfix does size exchanges... ...except that they didn't have the next size up in the jeans. Two sizes up would be too big. So the pants were a no. If you buy all five items, you get a 25 percent discount on everything, but if I didn't get the jeans then I lost that. Bummer. At B's urging, I kept the two shirts. He said the navy one was cute, and the red one looked "French-y." I liked the Toms a lot, but I can buy Toms anytime if I change my mind. I did like the blazer, too, but it was pretty plain, and the sleeves were a little long on me. I figure I could probably find another blazer, too, if I needed. But overall, I was really satisfied with how they nailed my style, and mostly satisfied with the sizing. I mean, I am hard to fit in certain regards, but who isn't? Want to try StitchFix yourself? Click on my referral link here to sign up. It's a LOT of fun, especially if you don't like actually going to a mall, or if you want to find some unique pieces that you haven't seen anywhere else. They don't have plus-size clothing yet, but they do have maternity, if that's your issue (and I do know a couple of you for whom it is). They even have a MEN'S section - so guys, if you think your wardrobe is lagging try this. No mall required. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this StitchFix, and the only thing holding me back from getting another one is...well, the fact I really don't need to do any more shopping. Sad.
