The summer I was 13, my parents were in the process of building our house. My dad worked full-time and my mom often spent all day visiting stores, dealing with contractors and making sure everything was going according to plan (it usually wasn't). I spent days on end with my various grandparents, who were extremely generous with frequent trips to the library.
It wasn't long before I had exhausted Thomasville Public Library's meager selection of age-appropriate titles. "Young Adult" books weren't a thing like they are now. At age 13, the children's books were too easy but the adult books were often over my head in both subject matter and style. So I got fed up, and then I realized - "Hey, I can write my own book!" And so that was when and how I decided I wanted to be an author when I grew up. Fast-forward 14 years, one study abroad trip, and too many heartbreaks to count. My first novel, That's How Women Die (no, it's not a murder mystery), was published in October 2011 by Wings ePress. You can buy it on their website or on Amazon in both Kindle and paperback versions. I'd be more than happy to sign a copy or answer any questions you have about it! |
When I'm not delivering blog content to my loyal readers, I do some freelancing and guest posts as work becomes available. Check out my most recent works that have been published elsewhere.
